In response, Chesapeake has developed an innovative overt anti-counterfeiting solution, Pro-tex®. This system, which operates globally, can help to verify the authenticity of a product as well as providing valuable tracking data.

The Pro-tex® system can be applied to the packaging of all consumer products and is especially suited to high value luxury goods. Each unit is given its own unique alpha-numeric character identification code which can be checked, via a standard mobile phone text message, against a secure database. A consumer registering the code for the first time will receive confirmation by a return text message. However, if the code has already been registered or is not recorded on the database, an instant text message will alert the user.

Each unique Pro-tex® code is securely generated through a closed-loop system operated by Chesapeake. The system is multi-lingual and can intelligently adjust language and message content of the reply according to the inbound message received. The Pro-tex® database system also offers the manufacturer the ability to track products and build information on a product's distribution, life-cycle and use. The manufacturer can also alert the consumer via a SMS text message to product changes or pass on other relevant information thereby becoming a valuable marketing tool.
