Outstanding Colour

Chesapeake's Portsmouth site has recently completed a series of development trials of MetalFX's new water based ink system, Flexo 1. Samples from the trial were presented to the print & packaging industry at the recent Drupa exhibition and were very well received. The project brought together the combined skills and expertise of Chesapeake, Eckart, Huber and MetalFX. Further trials are pending for both a solvent and water based gravure packaging system.

The system will offer customers' outstanding choice of colour combinations including metallic options and foil blocking simulants – all produced using water based inks. Chesapeake now plans to work together with MetalFX to develop the system across the gravure and flexo presses at its Bradford, Madrid and Portsmouth operations. This will build on the expertise of running metallic and polychromatic ink systems for the tobacco sector and, more recently, for the confectionery market. The system offers customers the opportunity to differentiate their packaging in the marketplace.
